The first coronavirus infection at SeAMK
A student has been diagnosed with a coronavirus infection at the Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences. The student has been in small group teaching at Kampustalo on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 between 9-12. There are altogether 14 exposed persons. All exposed persons have been contacted by the health authorities and they are in quarantine.
The infected student has been eating at the Kampustalo restaurant on September 29, 2020 from 10.45 to 11.30. Those who have dined in the restaurant during that time are asked to monitor their health for any symptoms and, if symptoms occur, they are asked to immediately contact the health authorities (local health centre or by calling 116117).
In order to avoid the spread of the virus, SeAMK will transfer the teaching of health care and social work to distance learning until October 18, 2020. This means the whole of next week, as the following week is the autumn holiday week. Small group and laboratory exercises are also not organised as contact teaching during that time. In other areas of education, SeAMK’s teaching and RDI activities will continue with a hybrid model and a strong recommendation to wear face masks.
As a precaution, the sport activities are cancelled and the gym is closed until October 18, 2020.
“This was a matter of time since the first infection comes up. When this case became known this morning, we have had a very good and quick cooperation with the Hospital District of South Ostrobothnia and the Health Care of the city of Seinäjoki. We continue to appeal to our students that now all celebrations and leisure gatherings as well as travel within Finland should be avoided, says Vice President Elina Varamäki.”
